Art and Technology, Faro Santander’s first programme strand, places innovation and experimentation at the heart of its approach. The programme takes shape in Cubo, an ambitious digital installation spanning two floors of the building. Its interior features a 360° immersive projection system, while its exterior is entirely covered by an LED skin measuring almost 400 m². Cubo will explore how technology is transforming the ways we create, connect and understand ourselves, bringing together artists working in collaboration with technologists and research centres.
For the opening, Cubo presents Before Faro Santander, a project comprising three interconnected audiovisual experiences that take visitors on a journey through the collective memory of this landmark building and the city of Santander.
Inside, visitors are invited on an immersive historical journey beginning in 1857, the year Banco Santander was founded, and continuing to the present day, interweaving the evolution of the port and the city with milestones in the Bank’s history and some of the most significant events in contemporary history. Cubo’s LED skin will reveal details of the building’s transformation, alongside objects from the bank’s original furnishings. The Cubo experience is completed by a virtual reality journey that uses VR headsets to transport visitors into a historical recreation of the building and some of its most emblematic spaces.
