New Perspectives invites people from art and culture to share fresh ways of looking at the exhibition ‘Masterworks from the Banco Santander Collection.’ The show explores four themes: Sacred Stories, Portraits, Types and Figures, Things: Still Lifes, and Places and Landscapes, each seen from different points of view.
This time, painter Juan Uslé discusses his own work in the collection with Nacho Solana. The piece, Soñé que revelabas (I Dreamt That You Revealed), is part of a series where a repeated gesture creates a landscape filled with memory, introspection, and emotion. Uslé’s art has always connected to landscape, from his early dark seascapes of the Cantabrian coast to abstract works where landscape becomes a feeling, a blend, or a rhythm.
Juan Uslé (Santander, 1954) is a leading figure in contemporary abstract art. Since the 1980s, he has split his time between Saro (Cantabria) and New York. He won Spain’s National Prize for Plastic Arts in 2002, and his work has appeared in major museums such as the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid, MACBA in Barcelona, MoMA in New York, and Tate Modern in London.
Nacho Ruiz holds a PhD in Art History and works as a gallerist, critic, writer, and curator. He has taught at the universities of Murcia and Barcelona, and has spoken at universities and museums in Spain and abroad. Together with Carolina Parra, he runs the T20 gallery.
